We know when Spring has arrived at the salons, we start to see feet for pedicures and we start to see bad backs from gardening. The weather is starting to improve and we start getting out in the garden, but we have had a really difficult winter, being in lock down and for many of us we haven't been as active as we usually would. So we wanted to share some of the advice we would usually give.
Take it slow, don't try to do everything in one go, we often hear that someone has done 4 hours of digging or weeding and then their back is painful, little and often is better. You can build up your bodies mobility slowly too.
Mix up the jobs you have to do, so that you body is moving and not stuck in the same place for to long.
Warm up, do some stretching and warm up your body before you start and after you finish.
Take regular breaks, maybe try setting a timer on your phone to remind you to take a break, stretch out in between jobs too, you could walk around and enjoy the garden and your work so far.
Don't try to lift and move heavy things alone, get help if you can.
Avoid bending and twisting, move your feet, don't plant them in place (ha, sorry)!
